    Hi,

I have no clue about this. Basically, if I work on a computer that originally came with XP preinstalled but needs to be formatted then is it legal for me to activate it by using the oembios sets?

It's just as a faster way than calling up MS to use the COA key. I would install the same edition they came preinstalled with. Also wondering if its legal for Vista and Windows 7 too? :)

i do this all the time for XP. i purchased the disc and had to do clean installs a few times for various reasons. patching windows to activate is much faster than calling MS indeed.... they may say technically this is illegal, but far as im concerned you own it... no need to go running to them for a new product key every time a fresh install is done:)

if you own a product, then how you use it is your business. dont worry about legalities on such an issue!! 'nuff said:D
