I keep reading conflicting reports some sites say it's an antivirus others say it's an anti-malware i'm currently using only malwarebytes pro because my windows defender got deleted after i tried to remove the telemetry and spying what's a good windows defender alternative?
lol and this is just the begining. sorry not "LOL"ing at your loss of defender, just the fact that people run things without knowledge of what they are running. At least the stuff you ran wasn't something that tries to encrypt your entire hard drive and force you to pay to get your data back. This time..
It's just wasted space, RAM and CPU cycles. The best thing you can do to avoid spyware is to use a decent browser, Say Vivaldi or Opera, and never touch Chrome, Explorer and alike. Anyway a good AV is nod 32. A resident antispyware is another wast of resources, a manual weekly scan with something like the good old spybot is more than enough.
While others have injected their viewpoints and opinions on the use of, and the functionality of Windows Defender, I believe the original question was not answered to the fullest. I can say that without a doubt, Windows Defender is both of the things you mentioned, and a lot more. Officially, Defender does the following jobs..... Antimalware, Antivirus, Antispyware, and Network Inspector. To confirm that information, you have only to click on Settings - Update & Security - Windows Defender and you can see for yourself at the bottom that Defender gets assigned all those jobs. As to your final question of what is a good replacement.... well, I'm sure you'll get many answers to that question from people better able to answer it than myself. However, I would suggest that you'll get as many different answers as you would if you asked what is the best desert to eat after finishing your supper. Most people have their own opinion, based on their particular experiences. As the saying goes, your mileage may vary......
Well the whole sentense is Windows Defender, included in Windows, is anti-malware software that can help protect your computer against spyware and other unwanted software, such as adware
and antivirus as well windows.microsoft.com/en-GB/windows/security-essentials-download sry can't past links yet
Malware is everything, so there's no such thing as both but all. Malware is, trojans, Virus, Spy, loggers, it's everything. One thing it isn't is good. Defender is absolute garbage and when Microsoft bought it from Giant, they destroyed it.
If you don't download anything like cracked app's, games, or files off the net and only run a browser, then malwarebytes is ok. But if you do download, you need to get something like, Bit defender, Avaira, Avast, E-set, Nod32, F-secure, Kaspersky. Most have a free version.
I always find interesting, how passionate people get talking about various anti-software, like it matters, since Vista you do not really need any.
windows defender is 'antivirus,' 'antispyware,' and 'network inspection' as others have stated. just take a look in defender's 'help->about': Antimalware Client Version: 4.8.10240.16384 Engine Version: 1.1.12002.0 Antivirus definition: 1.205.231.0 Antispyware definition: 1.205.231.0 Network Inspection System Engine Version: 2.1.11804.0 Network Inspection System Definition Version: 115.10.0.0 i used to have 'norton antivirus' installed but it slowed down my system too much. i use the following security/ad related tools on my system: ad muncher (4.94.34121) adwcleaner (5.003) comodo firewall (8.2.0.4674) malwarebytes anti-exploit (1.07.1.1015) malwarebytes anti-malware (2.1.8.1057) malwarebytes junkware removal tool (7.5.6.0) peer block (1.2 r693) spy-bot (1.6.2) spyware blaster (5.2.0) windows defender (4.8.10240.16384)
