I'm starting to notice threads pop up on various forums indicating Apple may now be preventing Windows 7 users from connecting to the iTunes store on Windows 7. I've now started to experience the issue myself, as I can no longer make purchases in the store.

I tried to remedy the situation by signing out and then back in again, but after doing so, I can no longer sign into iTunes at all.

I get this error: "There was a temporary problem completing your request. An unknown error occurred (0x80090302)".

It seems that version 12.10.11.2 is the last version compatible with Windows 7. I've tried that one and a few other iTunes 12 builds and none are working for me, as of a few days ago.

Anyone have any insight into this issue?

    Thanks.

Yes, iTunes 12.10.11 was the last version of ITunes that supports Windows 7 and Windows 8.1. And it was released in December 2020, more than 4 years ago.

It seems that Apple removed support for Windows 7 and 8.1 for iTunes soon after Microsoft ended support for Windows 7.

I would not be so sure that this is "planned obsolescence" regarding the iTunes store. After all, iTunes 12.10.11 on Windows 7 has been able for more than 4 years after December 2020 to access the iTunes store and if that Reddit thread is correct it was only in late March 2025 that an update from Apple finally broke iTunes store in iTunes 12.10.11.

It would seem to me that your only recourse, if you want to continue to access the iTunes store on a Windows PC, is to move to at least Windows 10 and then run a later version of iTunes (the latest version at this time is 12.13.7). (Update : See below.)

Perhaps you can try again to see if it works now?
