    I saw 1.7 version a few days back, and now majorgeeks is showing 1.6.0.27. Java website check says that I have the latest version installed (1.6.0.26).

    What is the proper upgrade path.

    1.6.0.26 -> 1.6.0.27 :p

    I am not sure how often the Java Automatic Update fires up in your system (depends on how it is configured in the Control Panel -> Java), but certainly 6u27 is already on the Oracle website...

    As for JRE7, I don't know if you will get notified via the Updater as it is a new branch. Since I always have automatic updates switched off (on all software) and install apps manually, I wouldn't know for sure if that's the case for JREs as well. So I am only guessing here :confused:

    if you use freerapid downloader dont get java7 stick with 6 it seems that some of the lib updates in 7 screw it up, i know i had to delete 7 and reinstall 6 to get freerapid to work right againo_O

    I would say it is normal for certain apps not working properly with the latest bundle. It is assumed that as far as compatibility is concerned, 6u27 is still the way to go...

    I agree. The very first app I tested with (1.) 7 didn't work (MOOS Project Viewer) but did with both (1.) 6u26 and 27.

    What is the difference between 1.6 and 1.7. I usually update 1.6 and am on 1.6.31. Is 1.7 for developers but not for desktop. If not, is it a normal install. I usually uninstall the previous version (eg 1.6.30) and then install the new one (1.6.31).
