on my W10 pro 1607 14393.187 KB(KB3194496) downloads, installs, reboot with subsequent message "failed to install" any idea ?
Mine went thru OK. If above manual installation also fails, run: Command Prompt (Admin) > sfc /scannow If that finds nothing, think of what changes you've made to your system recently.
Known issue, Microsoft is aware of this update causing problems on some systems (Although they still pushed the update to release yesterday instead of keeping it on the preview insider branch.) they are looking into it but I don't know if it's solved yet, probably not as then it would likely be via a newer (higher number?) update so perhaps in a few days they'll have a replacement? I don't think I can post URL's yet but just put KB3194496 in Google US or UK and one of the first links should be to Microsofts own feedback forums where there's several posts on this problem along with that above response from a Microsoft employee as well.
how dare these guys knowingly push a s****y update it was (is) s****y in the insider program (not corrected afaik) it's just a fta behavior imo
Well, the last update was also similarly problematic for many users. It seems it's now becoming the rule rather than the exception. It makes it a good idea to wait for a week before getting a new update. Except that with automatic updates, one would have to mess with the system to block them, which could end up worse. causing them to fail even more.
I'm having the same issue of failed install on one of two win10 machines, will try manual method. Thanks!
Have had no issue on any of my 10 systems. from Core to Enterprise. so why is it LOUSY. maybe your system is L***y. and shewolf program works just fine... I use DISM to manually install if the MS WAU fails... DISM.exe /Online /add-Package /PackagePath:E:\cab\full kb name here.cab
Installation worked perfectly for me, but I've had others fail for no apparent reason. Generally, downloading the update via a Microsoft website allowed them to be installed manually.
Can someone explain why the manual installation works when the automatic doesn't? Doesn't the automatic follow the same procedure only without you having to do any clicking?
I tried to download the update from the windows update catalog, but this update is not available. As of today, it is available.
Did not work either. Failing to install it seems to be very common case at the moment. I have not any idea what is the case, but I have failed 7 times to install it
I can only tell my experience with this update. It does not differ by any way (it fails install exactly the same way, automatic update or manual) ...
Try this, It worked for me when the KB3193494 rolled back and failed. Type: troubleshooting in the search > Go to System and Security > Tap Fix problems with Windows Update; Tick Advanced > Enable and check Apply repairs automatically; Tap: Run as administrator > Then click Next to finish the process. After apply the manual update.
But why didn't you first try again the automatic update after doing the repair of WU? It might have worked after the repair.
Because the repair involves deleting the SoftwareDistribution folder contents, and then you have to re-download everything again. If you have the KB as a file, just re-apply it and it worked for me.
Fair enough, but it doesn't prove that manual works when automatic doesn't, so my original question remains.
That also didn't work here. And what's there to download again after deleting the softwaredistribution folder? All installed updates remain installed, WU only has to recheck them and search for new ones (and that's just 1 for windows).
