KB2781197 Breaking Windows Defender?

    Anyone else having an issue with this update breaking Windows Defender? Once this update is installed Windows Defender cannot start on my system.

    Windows 8 PRO x64 with Media Center.

    no issues here. It installed march 13 and everything is running just fine

    Just re-installed the update and I get this when trying to run Windows Defender as well as messages to turn on spyware protection and virus protection. Any suggestions?

    did you try sfc /scannow in CMD prompt just to see if your system is ok?

    done and it did find corruptions that were unable to be fixed. I did refresh my PC 2 days ago. I guess I should refresh again?

    Try running DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth instead.

    As much as I'd like to play around, I'm just going to do a fresh install. Thank you everyone for your assistance. There's obviously something corrupt.
