I'm using Avast!, Malwarebytes Pro, SUPERAntiSpyware, HitMan Pro and Win Patrol - no conflicts. No doubt you will receive many differing opinions. As far as toolbars go, my best defense requires my second favorite organ - the brain.

    A dedicated virtual machine.

Failing that, disk/partition backups every week or so. Use a decent AV and firewall, dont browse porn sites, any files you download from the net that are compressed I usually open in a virtual machine (just in case). As for browser extensions, HTTPS everywhere, NoScript, and Ad blocker.

Sandboxie by default adds IDM to Software Compatibility if it detects IDM installation.

Open Sandboxie Control > Configure menu > Software Compatibility, turn off compatibility with Internet Download Manager

Now your downloads with IDM are sandboxed.
