hi I have got a Lenovo laptop and some keys are messed up ...what I mean is that when I press backslash I got some other keys or when I press @ something else is printed on screen so I have tried to change the keyboard to us version or eng version but still messed up.

    thanks

You have to find out which layout the keyboard is, most are US International (except germany, belgium and france (and britain?), maybe others too but those i know for sure).

Try this. Run CMD as admin and copy/paste:
    Code:
reg delete "HKLM\System\CurrentControlSet\Control\Keyboard Layout" /v "Scancode Map" /f

UK has @ above right shift two keys left of Enter and " is on the 2 key

They are switched around / different on US layouts, I think the \ is one of them which is to the right of the left shift key

One of the notebooks I used didn't have a full size keyboard but had the numlock key. You had to turn it on for all keys to be normal...

Can you please elaborate on what this achieves?
I do not want to mess up with my regedit.
I will take a screen shot of the keyboard layout and will post it later.

My mechanical keyboard was AFU on previous IP, but since updating to 16199 it is perfect again. I don't know what caused it. I plugged in a spare KB, and that one worked.

Apparently, it is keyboard layout issue. Not until you know the exact layout of your keyboard you would find it difficult to get the keys to work correctly with their various imprints. Please, post the image of your keyboard.

ok guys I finally resolved this issue ,it was definitely a layout issue. I just switched to the us international version and now everything is fine.
Here are the detailed steps I followed to resolve this issue in windows 10:

Start> settings > Time and Language > Region and Language > English {us international version > Options > Add a keyboard > US international
