    hello everyone,

i'm looking for a utility that reads the speed of my internet connection and based on that speed, decide whether to kill it or not. in windows xp, by the way.

is there such a utility? if not, can i get some tips on how to write one?

    thanks much.

or what about just the first part only?

how can one determine the actual speed, at a moment in time, on a network connection? i'm not referring to doing a speed test. there is already activity over the connection and i would like to know what the speed is at single moment.

    is this also disruptive?

    thanks much.

There are things like ISP monitor, that keeps up with your monthly bandwith, but also shows realtime up and download.

but if you transfer large files to other computers in your house it will also record this traffic and skew the results.
