Hello, First thing is i am not sure in which forum i have to post this question. Mods please move this thread if you think its not relavant place to post Coming to the question, i have an active Volume license subscription from Microsoft and i want to setup KMS server in my home and want to active all my client machines ( i have about 8 machines with windows starting from Windows 7, Windows 8, 8.1, Office 2010 and 2013). I will be getting more machines in future but wan to go with KMS setup activation My question here is in my volume service centre i dont see any KMS specific setup key , but i see KMS and MAK keys ( i am guessing KMS key is for client machine). can i use MAK key to activate windows server 2008 R2 and setup KMS server in that machine ?. will microsoft know how many machines i am activating internally in my home network I know that i need more that 25 machines for KMS to work. I can use KMS emulator and make it 25 count
first of all kms and mak are totally different, don't mess them... kms has two type of keys csvlk and gvlk; csvlk is the key used to activate host m/c online or through phone as we do in retail and then other m/c are installed using gvlk key (open to public and can be found on TechNet site) and then the kms activation process goes (csvlk and mak keys are not same), secondly I don't know if M$ can track how many m/c are activate using that host but 25 m/c limit causes problem while activation, if atleast 25 requests are registered (from different m/c) the host will not activate any client its n/w, for this purpose you can use client emulators to fake the requests and charge the host (process should be done every month)
I'm sure that would break the VL agreement and therefore make your computers run an illegal copy of windows. You'd f. up a KMS key for no reason. You'd better just wait a few weeks until MTK catches up, now that 8.1 is released, it won't take long.
This means can i use that KMS key and install Server 2008R2 and install KMS Service ? or do i need to install Windows server 2008 R2 with MAK key, activate it and install KMS service with the KMS key ? ( how many times can i activate KMSkey)
How many more times are you going to ask the same question? I already answered this in my last post. MAK keys are not used at all, not on the client, not on the server, not anywhere, when you are setting up KMS. Forget about your MAK keys! Yes, you install Server 2008 R2, put in your own, personal and private KMS host key, activate online, and you have a KMS server. On your clients, you use the public KMS keys from the article I linked. The KMS key can be activated 5 times.
You posted it in windows 8 forum so i guess that you want to activate windows 8 & above too with this KMS host but according to your screenshot you have key for R2. So win8 & above activation is not possible with this host setup... As already mentioned by kelorgo to activate office, office KMS host setup key is also required......
Thanks for your reply. I was confused before with many replies. Now i am clear of installing KMS server with my KMS key I do have Office, windows 8 KMS keys as well in my Volume License portal. So after installing Windows Sever 2008 R2 with KMS key and activate it online, how can i use the office and windows 8.1 kms keys to setup KMS ?. do i need to add those KMS keys some where in the setup ?
Thanks for the reply. i will get back to you if i have any more questions ( hopefully not) how many client activations can be taken place with 1 KMS key ? ( meaning if i install KMS server, how many client machines i can activate and how will microsoft know this)
For how many, look for your licencing agreement... KMS host don't care that how many you activated but agreement does & KMS host does keep the total request & activation count...
Am I mistaken or does the Volume Licensing not give you MAK keys to work with as well? Why would you spend all this time making a home KMS server when you can just activate them with the same MAK? You clearly have enough activations left on your MAK...
i do reinstall my pcs more often. so all the time MAK keys are getting 1 less activation status. If i use KMS Client Emulator for faking KMS activations, how will it work like if i give 30 count as fake and if i activate 10 of my real pcs, the over all count will be 40. after a month again if i fake with the Emulator and give a count of 25, over all requests would be 65 and there will be activations too. in my license agreement if i have 1000 KMS client activations, how will my setup work ?
