No problem here with suspend to disk / ram : Suspend-to-disk Code: sudo mv -v /etc/polkit-1/localauthority/50-local.d/com.ubuntu.enable-hibernate.pkla / Reboot computer (in certain configuration you could have directory error ) Suspend-to-ram Code: sudo touch /etc/polkit-1/localauthority/90-mandatory.d/disable-suspend.pkla Code: xed admin:///etc/polkit-1/localauthority/90-mandatory.d/disable-suspend.pkla copy/past the following text Code: [Disable suspend (upower)] Identity=unix-user:* Action=org.freedesktop.upower.suspend ResultActive=no ResultInactive=no ResultAny=no [Disable suspend (logind)] Identity=unix-user:* Action=org.freedesktop.login1.suspend ResultActive=no [Disable suspend for all sessions (logind)] Identity=unix-user:* Action=org.freedesktop.login1.suspend-multiple-sessions ResultActive=no Save, close and make a FULL reboot. windsman.
That's what I did. The result was that the "com.ubuntu.enable-hibernate.pkla" didn't exist (so I assume it is already disabled), and the disable-suspend.pkla part worked but after a few reboots suspend was back in the shutdown screen but the disable-suspend.pkla file was still there so...no idea. Doesn't matter, I was just tinkering with it anyway. I'll stay with Xubuntu.
I learned to love KDE. Too bad KDE has been dropped.....testing Kubuntu. Not sure what'll be my next upgrade. Can wait until April 2019 (EOL Mint 17), but then I have to...
Linux Mint users often tell me they use Mint because it looks nice. Well, with all the trouble you seem to go into getting it to work, you all could hop onto Debian tomorrow and spin a few tweaks and you'd not notice the difference except for the sudden stability you would have gained. Usually, there is a small learning curve for some to adapt Debian, even though it is what Ubuntu and Mint are built from, but I'm confident you've all already overcome that curve with the effort you've been using just to keep Mint going. lol In my opinion, there really is no learning curve, although some folks would claim there is one since you have to install a few deb files (really that is it). But reading over the trouble some of you have been running into with Mint, I really imagine you wish it was only that easy. lol
I like Ubuntu and is derivatives but GOD666 is right, Debian is rock solid and so stable in comparison. I use MX Linux [was Mepis] which is a branch of Debian, its very reliable, easy to install, your up and running in no time. I really liked Linux Lite but the Ubuntu base is a weakness, I wont go there again unless they decide to use Debian to build on.
As a linux mint user for a few years now I must say I'm disappointed in the new release Mint 19. IMO it seems they are going in the wrong direction with this distro....more restrictive. I dislike the update system with Timeshift. Poorly implemented.I preferred the choice of security updates only in the latter releases. When Mint went to v18 a lot of the excellent themes did not work and the available themes were basically limited to what was offered on the cinnamon spices site. Now the RAVEfinity Ambiance & Radiance Colors Suite don't work, I got to say 18.3 will be the last version for me unless they change their direction. Currently I'm playing around with KDE Neon which I think will be replacing Mint.
Most are built on debian anyway so stuff all these me too distros, im going to the source. Good to hear its stable
If your new to this go with MX and progress to Debian, if you jump straight in with Debian it could put you off. Its ok saying "just add a few deb files" you have to know what you want and need first. Most distros are not built on Debian, most are built on Ubuntu, they are not the same animal.
But oobuntu is built on debian i thought. Going to use debian live dvd 1st and see how i get on. Havnt got a clue what mx is apart from a missile.
Debian and Ubuntu are developed by different groups, Ubuntu is moving further away from Debian, the latest release of Ubuntu is not great and this is having a negative impact on all the Ubuntu based distros. Dont moan about Mint, its the base system thats flawed, Linux Lite's latest release is unusable on my PC, I know thats down to Ubuntu, not the Lite developer.
Moan about mint? Never tried it. Without even knowing about ubuntus problems and how it affects ubuntu based distros i selected debian. I made a good choice even though i didnt know all the facts
I agree that the base distribution (Ubuntu) has some serious issues. I am really looking forward to the release of LMDE 3 (Linux Mint Debian edition). I have used previous versions and really liked them.
i did upgrade from 18.3 to 19 (took tooo long.. fresh wipe faster) and noticed cpu fan was lower speed and pc feels more responsive. will try debian later on... been at least 12 yrs since i tried it last
I've been a Linux Mint user for quite some time now, beginning with Linux Mint 15 Olivia, and I have to admit that Linux Mint 19 has been the most problematic release I can remember. This is one of the reasons I haven't bothered to install it yet. The other is this: Months ago, before this release was even announced, I was toying with the idea of trying either Arch or Manjaro. Maybe this is the push I needed.
