am trying to get a OS for my i5 lapy, (let us put linux, bsd or etc aside first), is there any legal, free, ms OS available for people who like to test and use it from day to day, MS research OS? trial legal windows server? sorry mod, please move this post as you see fit, idk where should i post such question,
no retail version of Windows has ever had a "trial" or "free version" XP, Vista, 7 all have a 30-day grace period before you have to activate it. your only option for a legit free OS is Linux, BSD, etc
In 2 weeks you can have a "legal, free, ms OS available for people who like to test and use it from day to day,MS research OS"(Note: MS do not encourage pre-release versions for day-to-day use). You could also take this build as win9 alpha.
thats is fine, win 8.2 or alpha 9 would be released before the bomb explodes, hopefully. then they could improve current dism imaging method and hopefully more overall, then we start learn more new efficient methods.
Just a rumor: win9 beta/preview next Jan. Edit: btw, win8.2 is a term invented by some journalist/blogger out of speculation(or more correctly, guesswork), windows 9 is a real existing internal code for windows next.
Wrong! Microsoft named it Trial Versions as it's precise: Evaluation Version's, useable in some cases up to 180 day's. Those Evaluation Versions are available for quite some years from MS!
those evaluations are for enterprise testing. if the OP wants a free copy of Windows, i'm sure he's more than capable of pirating......
OP has stated explicitly in the thread title " legal, free, on trial win8, alpha win 9, win server, research win os "
Those 30 day Grace period is called by most dev's: TRIAL! Microsoft has for ALL software products those Trial's! And, MS didn't limits the use of it so called Evaluation's to Enterprise (Corporate) user only!
thanks guys, was wondering if i could use customized windows pe as my workstation os? i am aware there is some sort of up time limit set into those thing, eg, you cannot on it for 72 hours or so, it would get reboots automatically, basically, what i gonna run is, firefox, vlc, virtualbox, qbittorrent, teamviewer, truecrypt, sumatrapdf, dopdf, and nothing else, any suggestion for using windows pe as main os?
There are GUIs for WinPE. Even explorer can be integrated but MS wouldn't like that... But prepare for a lot of trouble cause all sorts of programs you want to run will throw errors cause they rely on things that are stripped out in WinPE.
