Hey, my friend is wondering...He has a legit windows 8.1 key and is eligible for free upgrade to 10, as everyone knows But he doesn't use a MSA account and doesn't want to. Once he upgrades to windows 10 through MS update, he wants to do a clean install, how does he know his new win 10 Licence key? For example, I was a windows insider and activation, so far, is binded to my MSA. How does it work for him? I know for me, I just need to run the iso via usb and skip the asking for key bit and sign in to MSA. This has kinda got us stumped. 1000 apologies if this has been answered a million times. PS He does actually have a MSA, but it's just baron. No info on Windows keys etc. He doesn't mind going back to MSA all a bit weird.
He doesn't need an MSA account nor a Windows key. Just upgrade on top of 7/8.1 Make sure is ACTIVATED and then do a clean install, skipping the serial requests.
He just said his got a full version of windows 8.1. That means, if he gets a new upgrade he will need to reinstall windows 8.1, upgrade to win10, to obtain a new HWID?
have genuine windows 8-1 installed do the upgrade within win 8 make sure its activated then he can clean install skipping the serial prompts .
you have one year to PERFORM that upgrade. They will not offer the free windows 10 forever, they offer it free for one year. So if you try to upgrade after the offer expires, you wont get it free forever on your system change motherboard or try to transfer the OS to another system and it will not activate, it is for that unique system only.
If you upgrade to 10 within the first year, then you have it for free, lifetime of device, blah blah. If you wait after that 1 year window (no pun intended) then you have to buy the upgrade/retail copy of windows 10. edit: yeah, basically what EFAA11 said lol.
Thanks guys. Even if I use Win 8.1 Pro activated with Microsoft toolkit, windows 10 after upgrade will be okay and activated?
