Hi guy's... Just bought this all in one machine for £100. It needs a bit love and a recovery set of discs. Does anyone know if such a set is doing the rounds ? If not would an y windows 8 install on it, and I somehow get the Lenovo B540 driver disks ?I'd ideally like the partition rebuilt, is there any way that could happen too, say using Lenovo's own software ? Any ideas guys, I'd really love some help restoring this machine... Thanks in advance guy's ...
Contact Lenovo to get a set. You could get the drivers for the machine right off Lenovo's driver site if you are looking to install from vanilla media. I would check to see if it is compatible with Windows 8 for the sake of your drivers if you don't know.
Thanks, it had windows on it but the reason I got was for client confidentiality the hard disk had to be removed. I therefore couldn't test the machine further without it, but trust the guy and for £100, thought I couldn't go wrong. Would Lenovo sell me a hard disk with the recovery partition already on and awaiting use ? If not, is there any way I could rebuild it ? You would just be better off buying a hard drive from your local computer store outlet or off line and just order the recovery discs from Lenovo. I don't know if they would sell you the hard drive with the recovery image installed but its worth a try to see if they will. You can always rebuild it with a blank hard drive, vanilla media, and the drivers from Lenovo
Since windows 8 has been activated on this machine with this bios, will I be able to recover the serial ?
Ahh, I see. Totally over looked that. As for the OP, Install Windows 8 "Core" and retrieve the key and use the key. If it is Windows 8 Core, it will install and accept the key and if its Pro, it should notify you and upgrade you to Pro
You all are awesome! I'm glad you got yourself a new toy. Installing an OS is a breeze nowadays just check Device Manager to make sure your hardware has drivers. Have Fun
Actually their is no need to try and recover the KEY from the BIOS just using a standard Windows 8 disk it will auto install the KEY from the BIOS and will auto install the correct version of Windows 8 (Core or Pro), done this multiple times already during my job.
