Lenovo T61P bios mod request - remove the 1.5Gbps SATA-II capping to allow 3Gbps mode

hate it when manufacturers rip people off

and this is affecting ALOT of people.

hi, we really would like to see this happen. i'd be willing to offer at least $1000 for the one who offers a working bios flash for the lenovo thinkpad t61/t61p where the sata limitation is lifted and we can use sata 2. i guess others would be willing to pay sth. as well and we could raise some money to get this done. if it takes a few days for a serious programmer it should be a fair solution for everybody.

Relax, i bet the laptop wont even top the sata 1 speed, check it with hdtune.

 

Unfortunately, there's a chance that it's running at PATA speeds.

 

Download HDTune and run the bench, then post a screenshot please.

 

I am using an SSD and I am getting capped at the SATA-I speed, actually below a little bit, not sure if there is some overhead or what. This drive can go WAAAY faster if the limit was not there. Someone please?!

 

I think you need to re-read the spec sheets from Intel.

ICH8 = 6 SATA II 3GBS ports Via 4X PCIe interconnects. Max throughput (all ports) 8000 Mb/s.

ICH8M = 3 SATA Ports VIA 1X PCIe Interconnect. Max throughput (all ports) 2000 Mb/s.
