I'm more of a casual user so haven't developed a preference for distribution but have always had better experience with Linux Mint. First time I tried Linux Mint was due to Ubuntu sound not working with audio process that was hung up and pegged out. That was a little while back. Yesterday, I went through downloading the latest of Ubuntu, Kubuntu but noticed only Linux Mint was able to play YouTube above 320p. Also, Cinnamon desktop manager is surprisingly light with the OS taking <400MB while Ubuntu was <800MB. There's one more I downloaded, SolydK, that's suppose to be pretty good but didn't get around to trying it.
Just updated the kernel to 3.19.0-32 Question: With the display windows thingy from the taskbar, mine displays the different windows fine, but I can't click any of them to swap between?
i guess i was lucky.. i upgraded too.. found the upgrade somewhere in upgrade manager, thought i would take the gamble. took 40mins, in all. no problems at all. it bloated a little about mirrors, and powermanagement, but everything works.. it it even seems to work a little faster, but i have no way to measure that..very nice that that they offer a simple download for the upgrade.
I haven't touched my other machine, but I'm sure it's waiting for Me. I'll upgrade when I get a chance. Others here seem to be having positive results.
Well, I too gave in and upgraded...running on kernel 4.3 - Configurable menu is just about usable ( config has to be done manually - right-click will freeze Cinnamon) - all other applets seem to work fine tho'.
One new feature in 17.3 'Rosa' in the Update Manager is a speed test of software repositories to find the fastest ones near your location. To take advantage of this feature click: Update Manager, Edit, Software Sources, Double-Click on the current listed URL's on "Mirrors, Main (rosa)" and "Base (trusty)" to run a speed test for multiple servers on each. A speed test will be run on each one with the fastest Mirror sorted to the top, with its speed in Kb/s listed. It might take a minute or two for the speed test to complete. Click on the fastest one to select it as your default Main and Base software repository servers. I found a couple of local repository servers that run at least twice as fast as the previous default ones.
I just realized a bug that exists in 17.2 (Mint, Cinnamon) remains in 17.3: When I close the lid of my Dell Precision laptop, the screen remains on. When I open the lid, then the computer goes into sleep mode. This is the equivalent of Wyle E. Coyote's parachute opening a second after he has slammed into the desert floor.
That must be a Cinnamon bug, not a linux bug. I run Linux Mint 17.2 KDE and there's no such bug here.
