    Hi All,

Laptop Model: ASUS TUF GAMING FX505DY with Ryzen 5 3550H processor and 8 GB RAM

I have recently bought ASUS TUF GAMING FX505DY and wanted to install Ubuntu along side of Windows 10 home single language OEM but this laptop does not support Ubuntu or any previous versions of windows(like windows 7,8,8.1) it only supports windows 10, tried disabling secure boot and switching to legacy(CSM boot) but no luck, also tried updating BIOS drivers but no luck, luckily i was able to install linux mint 19.3 Cinnamon but mint does not have supported WiFi drivers for my laptop model.
So if someone has a workaround to install any third party drivers or guide me to any other supported linux distro for asus fx505dy.

for this machine a 'buntu version lower than the dingo is not recommended, but dingo is dead so your only option is the ermine, 19.10

Thanks, i was trying Ubuntu 18.04.4 LTS Bionic Beaver which never worked, as mint wireless driver issue is fixed i would stick with mint for a while, if needed i may try ubuntu 19.10 in a month maybe and update here if 19.10 works.

    thought as much.

why go for the 'buntu derivative when you can have 'buntu itself, just my 2 cents.

after a month you might as well get the fossa, 20.04 which is also an lts version due for release on 04/23.

I like mint more because of its easy to use UI
I love windows 8 UI the most, sadly windows 8 is not supported on my laptop, do you have any workaround for windows 8 to work on my laptop?

    probably because it is windowsish.

    likewise.

i would not recommended an os which has no mainstream support.

    19.10 is not lts.

read the op again 'buntu was his 1st choice but he was installing a version of 'buntu not recommended for his machine & therefore facing issues.

mint was not even his 1st pick leave aside being a fan.

Sorry, hate it, I started off with Windows 95 through to XP, first Linux distro I used was Mepis. Desktop for me has to be taskbar on the bottom, start menu to the left, nice clean uncluttered desktop and not this bloody awful tablet look.

One thing I would say to our friend is that he/she might have to settle for a distro that likes the PC. Just because its Ubuntu based [like Mint] it doesn't mean it will run as well as Ubuntu or another derivative, same with all of them, its the most frustrating issue with Linux. I am running Mint and it works perfectly on my PC, my distro of choice, MX was rejected by my PC. Its the PC not the distro that's the problem.

Exactly! I hate the tablet look in ubuntu. Mint not only has start menu to the left and nice clean uncluttered desktop, it also has most settings and features similar to windows which makes it the most easy to use linux based system. the inbuilt media player and PDF reader is also easy to use and plays all types of media files. I would say, anyone who wants to switch from windows to linux should start with linux mint, he or she will never switch back to windows.

Although, my first choice was Ubuntu(because most modern day laptops support ubuntu and many laptop vendors like Dell, actually ship laptops with ubuntu) only thing i like about ubuntu is graphics. Functions and UI wise mint is the best. Tried centOS, RHEL, kali(also backtrack5r3) on old laptop as my new laptop does not support them anyway and none of them were as good as mint UI wise.
