I want to convert the dvd to a small file, and at the same time save the subtitles to separate files. Thanks.

Thanks. I just tried Nero Recode. it's pretty good. I got the file with the subtitle. When I watch it on computer, I can turn on or off the subtitle.

Nero the only one i use is a repack nero 9 lite 28mb only for burning and doing audio cd's. I would never install full nero suite again total bloatware, as NoJuan999said DVDFab will do it and it is only 14mb, also nero cannot remove protection from dvd's

Since Nero cannot remove protection, I tried Dvdfab. it worked pretty good also, it separated the video file and the subtitle (subpicture). Thanks.

    DVDFab is fine.

Or get AnyDVD HD & CloneDVD2 from SlySoft.

    Will solve all your problems

+1 on DVDFab, Nero is too bloated for my taste

For the best quality I'd google a bit around to find the encoder/codec combination with the best size/quality ratio. I'm not really into dvd ripping, so I can't help with that.
Rip the dvd with dvdfab, just a bit to bit rip with no quallity loss. This is only to get the encryption stuff removed so the encoder takes it.
Of course if the quality doesn't matter that much you could also compress it with dvdfab.
