Hiya, I'm running an adhoc network at home to share my internet connection with my family. I've set it up through the windows wizard, the problem I have now is that I'd like to find a way for the OS or a 3rd party software to notify me whenever someone connects to my adhoc network. Reason is so that I may stop my downloads manually if I see somebody else sharing on the net. P.S. Win 7 Ultimate.
For download clients to work you need ports to be forwarded / open. As long as you are the only one who can accsess the router admin account then you shouldn't have a problem. Personally i have an admin account on the other machines on my home network. Ive set permissions on these machines so that i am the only person who can make system changes / instal programmes like download clients. This in turn prevents downloads. Works well for me.
Thanks for the reply, but I think you misunderstood what I was looking for. My problem isn't about the ports but rather it's about me hogging most of the bandwidth. So I'd like to minimize my net usage whenever my father, for example, uses the net. He uses it for an hour at a time so it's not such a big problem for me to pause my torrents during those times. I'm looking for a way for Win or a program to automatically notify me whenever he connects to my computer - my pc's serving as the host. Currently I just manually look at my network connections every so often to see if the adhoc network's active. Oh and my ISP is very slow and unreliable so I try not to halve & compete for bandwidth between us.
