    hi,
im tring to connect a pc to my 42lcd tv in the livingroom.
for video i use a dvi to hdmi
and for audio i use a regular cable that connect the audio exit from the sound and the similar exit in the tv.
now the problem that whenever the 2 cable is connected togheter i lose the sound while video is on.
when only sound cable is connected i have sound.
when only the video cable is connected i have video .

any ideas why i lose the sound when both cable are connected....

When you have audio plugged in only to tv, is it still on hdmi same as before?

I am not sure you will be able to do it that way you want.

Does your computer not have hdmi out on back?

    So something like this?

HDMI is capable of carrying both audio and video signals from the video card to the LCD monitor. The following conditions apply.

    1. It must be connected to the HDMI port in both video card and LCD monitor (or HDTV).

    2. If using an AMD Radeon HD video card, the sound driver for the video card must be installed.

    3. nVidia video cards have no sound driver because they does not have audio processing units built in. A pass-thru cable must be connected from your sound card or onboard audio to the nVidia card for the sound to be transmitted thru HDMI.

    4. Using a VGA or DVI to HDMI adaptor will not transmit the audio because VGA and DVI only transmit video signals.

    5. If the LCD does not have a HDMI port, then it cannot recieve the audio signal from the HDMI cable.

    6. The LCD monitor must have internal speakers or speakers attached to the monitor to hear audio.

i corrected some of the replies see in color above.

heres something to remedy that dvi to hdmi no audio.
Monoprice DVI & S/PDIF Digital Coax/Optical Toslink Audio to HDMI Converter
the right side is input.. it uses SPDIF coax or optical to "inject" to the hdmi cable on left side out.

BINGO = the HDMI on TV is expecting audio that is not there.. and it cant use other audio inputs on tv while hdmi is the one used ?

    easy n cheap solution :
1: if u have a stereo system: use an audio mini jack to rca red/white plugs to it (cheap at most electronics stores)
2: use a pc speaker system in the pc since its already playing the video.. like a surround sound sys.

    Not so cheap
1: buy a video card with hdmi = $30 or so but weak.
2: buy a SPDIF to HDMI box about $40 or more.

Yeah I was just trying to come up with a general. As bigdOg posted on the other site maybe go into the tv settings and check the hdmi settings.

    was i that un-understood ?
when im using the hdmi to hdmi cable i use only that cable.
i never use both cable at the same time.
when i using the hdmi to hdmi cable i use the hdmi exit that on the video card - to the hdmi enter in the tv.

ok so videocard is hdmi and using hdmi cable.. no adapter from DVI to hdmi as sound does not come from dvi. (unles its nvidia pre 2010 with no HDMI. SPDIF jumper cable used from onboard soundcard)

windows 7 ... right click the speaker. playback devices.. check there for output to be HDMI audio not internal soundcard.

    what video card model ?

    missunderstood because of title

unknown device is likely the audio chip on the video card.. open that and see what details , HARDWARE id is so we can find and install driver.

    Hi again ,
Sorry for buging again with this matter , but i have difficult with the s/pdif cable.
I was able to find a spdif cable but couldnt get sound.

I tried to connect the spdif cable to the motherboard pins, but no sound , were heard .
Later when i will be next to pc i will circule on the motherboard picture a circule around the two pins...

    Cant put this issue behind...rrrrr

here is a picture as promised .
notice the written spdif out (twice) and the 4 pins that is a little to the right (hope thats the ones- big embarrassing if not)

    mobo.jpg

maybe there is specific way to plug them . the cable side that goes to the motherboard has 2 connection - 1 red and 1 black)
