Daughter's Win 8.1 machine has a reoccurring problem with getting hung at the "... working on features 100%. Do not restart etc." screen. I checked her event viewer and found the latest error was with a language pack update failure. I have her machine set to never check for updates, but it appears these files (lpkinstall.exe and or lpksetup.exe) just run whenever they feel like it. I have tried to rename them to stop this, but Windows says only a "Trusted Installer" can change them. Can someone tell me how to stop them from running? They are not listed as a running "Service". jetjock
Nope, just browsing when the computer said it was going to restart...and did--sort of! Got as far as the "...working on features..." page. jetjock
yep I think the same, but I don't want call to it to avoid more problems maybe reset Windows solve this strange behavior
Didn't work. Re-installing Win 7 Ultimate this week! I don't have a clue why her machine keeps having that problem as I have the same computer with the same OS and don't see it. Of course, she uses her's more than I do. Mine is strictly a backup & for travel, so it pretty much just sits. Anyway, I'm sick of fixing hers, so it's back to Win 7 for now. Thanks to all who posted. jetjock
You bet! I'm waiting for someone to bring me her backup drive right now before installing Win 7. If I ever want to go back to Win 8.1, at least I'll have it. jetjock
