Back in August I had to reinstall Windows 10. I made an uneducated decision to shrink my 128 GB SSD to 28GB and move the unallocated 100GB to my HDD. I thought I did anyway. the more I think about it now, I don't even think that's possible. Bottom line is I'm constantly getting messages that there's not enough space on the drive & that unallocated 100GB is nowhere to be found. Can this be reversed at this point or did I just screw the pooch on this one? for the record, the HDD is 500GB & it looks like it's all there, but not the missing 100GB that I thought I could magically move from SSD to HDD.
Generally It's not possible to move 100GB from one physical SSD and have it register against a separate physical HDD (Not unless your tinkering around with very odd RAID configurations...) Check Disk Management in the Control Panel admin tools and if there is a 100GB section of unallocated space next to your current 28GB C drive partition then you should be able to "expand" the C drive partition and take back that 100GB space. If it's not next to the C drive partition then you'll have to re-partition everything, which means wiping all your data and starting again.
@nodnar: That's to be expected. They were only here for the free food. But you never know. They might come back and become a part of this community. I doubt it, but you never know.
Just didn't have time till now. checked in for a couple hours after the post last night hoping to see something. I'm back baby
tried EasUs & mini partition tool. nether found anything unallocated next to the ~28GB partition my OS is on on my SSD.
i guess I can't post links yet... but here's the cut & paste variety: https:// drive.google.com/file/d/0B23WcVO0cdYsTVV2V2N4b0lweUk/view?usp=sharing
So, you think there's a chance the space is still there? As I mentioned above, it's not showing up in Disk Manager which I have a screenshot of here: https:// drive.google.com/file/d/0B23WcVO0cdYsTVV2V2N4b0lweUk/view?usp=sharing
I've tried for a year to reinstall windows... I haven't even been able to install updates! The process of reinstalling windows in August when I did it last was very convoluted and cumbersome just to get around the fact that I can't even do it from the built in procedure. it all started with the update from windows 8 to 8.1. since then, I could never even update it & there was a noticeable change in performance. I think I got a bad update. things have sucked ever since. I should mention that windows 8 still shows up upon startup (even though I did a clean install) but cannot be accessed. It may still be on the machine... but a quick glance at WinDirStat seems to tell me otherwise
Do you have OS on SSD, Looks like disk 0 might be SSD See up above in Disk Management C-Free space-larger than SSD @ fiddystorms, you going to answer Do you have another OS on Disk 0 If your having problems posting, run in Cmd Prompt sfc / scannow press enter on keyboard, reboot
yes, the SSD is disk 1 unfortunately & the IS is on it. here's the contents of that disk: https:// drive.google.com/file/d/0B23WcVO0cdYsY0hCZmo2NThiblk/view?usp=sharing the windows~bt folder is 9GB & the Windows folder is 18GB No, I do not have another OS on the system based on what I think is true and a WinDirStat evaluation, but Windows 8 option appears at startup as if its a dual boot... but I can't login to it Yes, I noticed the free space thing. gets even greater when I check the properties on the C drive
Do you have OS on other Disk you can boot too OK, Don't do anything in this box unless I tell you, unless you like reformatting, Bring up C/Windows/system32/msconfig, under boot tab, how many OS's does it show
