Hi everybody. Hi Admin. I think this is the time for starting new main forum for Windows 8.1. Let's start vote for this.
hmmm, could be a benefit for all users because of the clarity... A subforum makes sense to me, Yen. ^^ Anyone with me?
I don't think that there is need for a new forum because the similarities to W8 are too big to talk about the same stuff again on another place. Activation methods can be sticked and discussed when available W9 deserves a new thread but not 8.1
with the speed MS "plans" to start releasing, subforum might actually be something to consider. We may find it easier to navigate 8/8.1/8.5??/9/10 etc who knows what MS has planned between whole numbers haha
I don't agree. I think windows 8.1 need to stay here and no in sub-forum. windows 9 will necessary separate forum.
I agree on a separate category. You either use Windows 8, or 8.1. They are both different operating systems. Stuff that works on Windows 8 doesn't necessarily work on Windows 8.1, and vice versa. And 8.1 is not a service pack to 8 either.
Subforum is a good idea, a real separate forum not. Most things that go for one go for the other too. Only activation related things are different.
The mixture of the two systems is confounder. Even if the systems are not very different they each have spécific (eg activation) that warrant separation.
I don't think it is required. Windows 8.1 is just another upgrade from Windows 8 or you can call it as a BIG Service Pack. This is the mail i got from the Local reseller when i inquired about the Windows 8.1 upgrade Spoiler This is line to our telephonic discussion with regard to the Win Pro 8.1, we checked with Microsoft and got the following feedback for your kind reference, JM, based on your email description, you would like to know if Windows 8.1 will be a totally new product or an added value for the current customers. Please let me know if this is not correct. Regarding your enquiry, please note that Windows 8.1 is an added value to the current customers. Meaning that, current customers who are currently using Windows 8/Windows 8 Pro will get Windows 8.1 as a free update. You may consider it as a big Service Pack update that will bring more features.
Not discrediting the local reseller, but who are they to determine what an OS is? I could be a reseller and claim Windows 8.1 is separate to 8. Windows 8.1 alone has a newer WDDM level, and DirectX level, along with a different kernel version, and probably plenty of other small things. Program and driver compatibility between the two aren't 100%. There likely won't be a reason for most people to use 8 over 8.1. If I was looking for new information in-regards to 8 though, digging through maybe 2 pages worth of 8.1 posts won't be too ideal. Maybe specific thread title tags like [8] and [8.1] might help, but meh, would seem more messy than just a separate forum. A sub-forum would probably be best.
At some point 8.1 will probably be a mandatory update, so the 8 forum will automatically become 8.1 forum.
