I read the comments in this thread here , but I don't want to take that thread any further off-topic.

I've always hated Windows Media Player with a passion and used VLC for as long as I can remember.

But it started to annoy me when I used it to play an entire album of music because it doesn't respect
    the original track order .
Yes , I know , you can add the album to the VLC playlist and then do a sort on track number .....
.... but what a load of hassle !

I tried KMPlayer first and found it to be horrible ..... it implements file-association by default so
that all your media files become " KMPlayer" files , much the same as with Media Monkey .
And even after a "complete" uninstall , I kept finding bits of it for weeks !
They both hook themselves far too deeply into the system for my liking .

My current choice is GOM Player ( Korean ) but it is a little " crash -happy " .

On the plus side , it has a cool equalizer which allows you to create , label and save as many
different EQ settings as you want ....

I'm going to try PotPlayer next .

I'd like to hear comments from other MDL members.

I use MPC and it works okay, but I'm planning on writing a player myself.

I always use Potplayer for Video, and Foobar for Music. I would be interested to hear any reasons why these are not a good choice. Both offer a good range of playable files. I need APE for Music and MKV for Video.

If you care your privacy at all, stop using Potplayer. It's free for a reason.

Use open source media players. MPC-HC or MPC-BE. These are high quality players that can play basically anything you throw at them.

My choice is BSPlayer Pro. Has everything I need and plays everything without problems.

:eek:You don't need codecs with MPC-HC, it comes with them built in, the only purpose codec installing will serve is if you have another app that needs them like media player.
