I'm watching video clips where I want to record and save some segments from the video. These segments are usually just a few seconds. I want to do this easily while using my normal media player. I've tried using a Screen recorder program. It works ok, but I figure it could be done easier and with better quality.

Anyone know a mediaplayer that can do this? Or a program that does this combined with a player?
I managed to do this with VLC, but don't know how to change the quality to get lower file size.

    Thank you for the response.

I see the convert/save option in VLC, but it seems only to allow converting the whole file.

Don't know about VLMC. Didn't seem to do the job either and was pre alpha.

Virtualdub is like using a video editing software to do it. I was hoping for another way.

Will I then be able not having to open the video files in another program before recording? What I'm looking for is another way then the standard opening the whole file in a movie maker program. Currently my best try is to use the record button in VLC and then transcode the saved file.
