Dear members, Finally bought myself a Samsung UE48H6500, beautiful SmartTV. For years I used a big old Samsung CRT TV with a Dreambox attached to view movies from PC. Now that I have a SmartTV, I thought it would be easy to use a Mediaserver, but I ran into a problem. If I want to play a movie with external subs, sometimes the subs are not showing on TV but I can on my PC. At first I used WMP, but it shows no external subs at all through DLNA. I have tried Serviio, no go. I have tried Plex, no go and what a bloatware this is! I have tried SimpelDLNA, no go and this one doesn't play external subs at all. Now I have PS3Mediaserver installed and this one suits my needs the most, but some movies it shows the external sub after the filename but doesn't play. So maybe there is a member on the forum who had the same issue and resolved it. Thnx in advance!
<Update> After struggling a few days, I installed Samsung Link (the Allshare successor) I got some movies with subtitles working now that didn't work before! </Update>
As I wrote: Is all about what you're looking for! From what I have listening from quite a few users of those software, NOBODY found something what even passed their requirements in Free Versions, which are just giving very basic function but advanced! The later they could only found in Payware! And believe me, here in Thailand a lot user using such apps for Karaoke and others! If there would be an reliable Freeware, I would have heard about it but didn't! So, from my point of view, if you not give up on that and still want to have advanced features, Payware is the way to go!
Okay, thnx for your reply. Samsung Link is the most suitable for me now, cause it plays the most subs. But I have for example a James Bond Collection in MKV format with internal subs I cannot select, so I downloaded the .srt files for it. These files are renamed to the same as the movie, but no-go with all the Media Servers I tried. Plex PS3 Media Server Serviio SimpleDLNA Kodi Wild Media Server WMP Must be in de subs, but with Subtitle Edit I saved them as UTF8 and ANSI, but always a no-go
Okay, just tested an external HDD via USB, everything works! Gonna buy a 1,5 TB HDD for 20 euros and put everything on there. Problem solved.
1.5Tb for EUR 20? That rather cheap... Local drive works great (just buy 2, so you have backup) What format are the subs? I use £26 Raspbery Pi 2 with Kodi to play anything from anywhere (how smart is that?)
Subs are always .srt either ansi or utf-8 On PC everything works, only through dlna every program I used has some issues. By the way, the 1,5 TB I purchased 2nd hand!
