Bout damn time that SOAB left. Hopefully his successor wont be as big of a screw up when it comes to listening to consumers wants & needs
So the two Stevies (Sinofsky, Ballmer) that gave us the disgusting abomination known as Metro (er, Modern UI) are both gone! Ding! Dong! The witch is dead!
I'm afraid if his successor wont be as big of a screw up , we will not have many ways to use and activate Windows thing for free
The dish "Windows 8.1" is brewed already so the Cooks at MS Kitchen have the next one for to be burned (this time)! Let see what finally will come out and it's the Chief (William Gates) how'll have the final say, me think!
Ballmer didn't screw up(IMHO). The culprits were the early bloggers and forum posters, who, after seeing the "Metr"o screen for the first time, started posting the bad news. In fact, I adapted the Metro screen as my start menu, no problem for me. Possibly 90% or more of the complaints have been regarding this and, maybe associated, the lack of a start menu. The latter was trivial and easily rectified. Should those same bloggers have been a little more investigative, they would have found that it wasn't even necessary to see the Metro screen , and they could work with the legacy desktop the whole session. So, perhaps, the real blame lay with amateur "Beta testers". The OS is totally dual purpose. Those who don't fancy the Metro alternative, can use the legacy and stop whining about the Metro. More feedback from tablet and touchscreen users would have helped the situation perhaps.
Windows 8 is superior in every aspect. It's faster and more responsive than windows 7. Doesn't suffer from memory trashing like windows 7 DWM/AERO did. The biggest problem and mistake was forcing modern UI on desktop users. Than again if you're windows user for more than a decade and don't know basic keyboard shortcuts, there is no one else to blame but yourself.
I am ok with Win8's UI. However it is to a PC user, that of an ez-bake oven to a chef. I simple switch from touch to keyboard/mouse option would have been a good move. The charms bar probably being my biggest annoyance. With that said, I get by just fine, liking it or not.
