I have an account in gmail that I use in Chrome on a laptop and in a smartphone. Browsers on these two devices are automatically synchronized. And I need to enter the Edge under this account. But so far there is no such possibility.
How does MS plan on keeping this going? Will it be a standalone browser or become a part of Windows? Do they have an actual goal on where they want Edgium to be?
Twitter is the way Microsoft has decided to communicate, so if you want to follow, then you need to join Twitter.
Microsoft has already covered this numerous times already... Edgeium will replace Edge in a later Windows 10 Upgrade (20H or 21H). But for now, Edgeium is in BETA testing with 2 current rings/build channels available for testers DEV & CANARY with BETA Channel coming soon. Edgeium BETA CHANNEL will be the closest thing to final product testers will get/use until Microsoft finalizes the product for good and is ready to replacement Edge within Windows 10 Operating System mostlikely in 21H Upgrade. When this happens, it will be updated on a regular basis, just like Chrome & Firefox are in the background. The DEV & CANARY Channels will probably stick around for those of us who love testing/debugging things just like Chrome & Firefox still have active DEV & CANARY Channels testing today... That's why Microsoft has the default installation locations & data locations for DEV & CANARY in other locations and why we can run and test both builds on your computer at the same time. When Edgeium is finalized, the location of installation and our data will replace the current Edge browser on Windows 10 and most users who are not in the know will probably not even notice things too much besides the look and feel of the Edgeium is different (from the current Edge Browser) and those who have used Chrome before will say this looks familiar. I just hope Microsoft spends some money and educates the public properly when the time comes... Hopefully some kind of SPLASH page that educates and visually walks users through the new Edgeium Browser, teaching them the changes that were made from the old Edge and how to use the new Edgeium going forward, especially when it comes to EXTENSIONS!!! Edgeium will also be a standalone browser that Windows 7-8.1, iOS, MacOS, and I believe Linux will be able to download/install as another browser that users can have running on their systems (just like Chrome, Firefox, Chromium, etc.). Maybe Google will even allow Edgeium to appear at a later point in the Google Play Store. Regarding adding your Google account to Edgeium... NEVER GOING TO HAPPEN!!! This is going to replace Edge on your Windows 10 systems at some point... Edge is attached/linked to your Windows 10 system and your Microsoft Account (not Windows Account) hence why syncing of your data has to be hand in hand with Windows 10 operating system (Microsoft Account, Favorites from Internet Explorer & Edge, Timeline, Cortana, etc) This is a Microsoft product going forward, not a Google product... If your so hung up on your Google Account and/or Google Services... STAY WITH GOOGLE & CHROME!!! If you don't trust Google with any of your private data, your most likely going to switch over and use Edgeium going forward. The tools are there for users to import their Google Data over to Edgeium. Like I mentioned earlier, if Google allows Edgeium into the Google Play Store at a later point, maybe Android users could install Edgeium to their phones and use it in the future as well... But NEVER, EVER forget that your Android phone is still secretly sending your data back to Google's servers so whatever you do on your phone they will still know!!! It's nice to know that Edgeium will take its place next to other Microsoft Services on iOS and Android (hopefully) at a later point!!!
Is there a way to enable push notifications? I'm running the latest dev version. Tried a setting, relating to push notifications, in about:flags, but Twitter is still reporting unsupported browser. I'm aware that this is still little more than alpha software, but just wondering if there's a way to enable this functionality. Btw, it's very promising as is, and if Edge features, like the epub reader and annotations are carried over, it will be outstanding Update: Just tried again and this time it turned on without incident; so all's well that ends well
I hope they give us that option much sooner. If Edge gets tab stacking and some proper customization options, I will switch to it from Vivaldi. I mostly want it so I can have just one browser installed, less bloat. As for using a Microsoft account to sync in the new Edge, that's OK, Vivaldi also uses a Vivaldi account for everything and works fine, i don't miss my Google account much, although I wish there was a Vivaldi for Android. Without tab stacking, I will stay with Vivaldi for sure.
I think that's something similar to tab groups: https://forums.mydigitallife.net/threads/microsoft-edge-chromium-based.79237/page-9#post-1512311 And that feature will also work in the new Edge.
Microsoft Edge is up to date Version 76.0.144.0 (Official build) canary (64-bit) Great ! They fixed the bug where left arrow key highlighted adrress bar
Translation works great in 144, very nice, comes in quite handy on some sites I (and many others) frequent. Now I can actually stop using Chrome almost completely as a backup too.
