n00b question: What am I supposed to do with the above directory/files if I am installing Office 2010 into a WinXP VirtualBox VM on my main system (which has the already the installed version of Office 2010)?

Do I just copy those directories/files onto a similar path in my VM after installing Office 2010, and I won't get prompted to activate on first start-up?

Just use CODYQX4's Toolkit. It does it all for you: backup and restore.
No need to do anything manual.
