I can imagine how many consultants and focus groups worked and worked until they came up with that. However, Microsoft has corporate Attention Deficit Disorder; they make a big splash about something new and then later they lose interest and jump to something else. So this too will pass.
All industries lose interest quickly after such branding efforts and seem to see only one quarter in advance. Segoe will forever be a Microsoft font I will have to avoid in layouts of my own.
Certainly almost all look good because of their freshness. The new logo looks good but somewhat lacks the character of the old MS. For me, perhaps windows xp had the best logo.
Meh, there okay. I'm not digging this whole "flat web 2.0" stuff though. I like the gradients and whatnot better (IE 9 Logo and Old SkyDrive Logo for example).
The new logo looks awful, just like it was from 90s. The same logo was used for Windows 95 commercial if someone is a bit older.
Ballmer, have you ever had a chance to watch his "promotional" video? He's like Al Bundy and Rowan Atkinson together in one person.
