This is the second time Microsoft has issued an update to Windows 8 that doesn't want to install. KB2770917 is the culprit this time. It tries to install but then errors out and reverts.
10 updates today all of which failed to install!! reverting changes again!! Im getting more annoyed all the time now with windows 8 failing to install updates
I still can't get KB2756872 to install on my computer. It fails and reverts changes at 98%. As far as I know there's no solution to this problem. I tried installing these new updates and the only ones that successfully installed were KB890830 (Windows Malicious Software Removal Tool x64 - November 2012) and KB2772501. This is really annoying. It looks like I'll have to reinstall. All updates installed successfully on my laptop though.
Damm it all! MS just trashed my tuned installation again with its f****d updates. After the reboot (and BIOS post and WinLogo) the screen just starts to blinking without any way to enter Windows... BTW: The machine is quite new MSI nbook with GF-560M, nothing too uncommon... F*** %$^&%&*^*(^%*^$%#$^$ BTW: I forgot (of course) to enable "LEGACY" F8 at start (for safe mode), so there is no way to enter Windows now? F*** Mr. Steve Ballmer: Just tell me, why F8 recovery menu is called LEGACY and deprecated, when W8 needs it so often. S*** my d***! Goodbye, ruby tuesday Who could hang a name on you? When you change with every new day Still Im gonna miss you...
Same problem for me with KB2770917. I have reported my findings here: in the "Windows-8-Hotfix-Repository" thread.
Win 8 Pro WMC x64 Enabled: Hyper-V, NET v3-5 (of course, BTW: Which idiot DISABLED it by default, even Windows Mobile (v6-x) sync center can't install without it.), Telnet Client, Simple TCPIP Services (like daytime, echo) Installed lng-pack nVidia GeForce v306-97 x64
Windows 8 Pro x64 with Media Center. Incidentally, only one update fails. Uncheck 2770917 and then install all other normally... I reverted some changes I've done to Win to see if that's the reason, but no success. Do you think the fact that I've uninstalled all Metro apps might be the culprit? Also, I've disabled other things on Metro too. If you find something, please post! Well, indeed... Too many performance updates already. I don't say it's not good, but it seems MS like other companies, rush to meet strict deadlines and we get crappy software. I have really regretted I installed Win 8. When AMD will release 12.11 or 12.12 whql, I'll go back to Win 7.
I've bought W8 upgrade key (from W7) via UpgradeAssistant for 30$ and then again I bought WMC upgrade for 5$. It is funny, that now (with system trashed and inaccessible), I have to still install W7 and then upgrade to W8 from it. Thank you, MS!
today's updates destroyed my laptop and it got stuck on a reverting changes loop so i had to refresh my pc and start over with windows 8.
Moderate, you should be able to boot to DVD and install as a custom install. Once setup sees the existing yet trashed install it will (in my experience) install with no need for registry changes and activate.
Unfortunatelly I can't do it, the drive is TrueCrypt type, so install program from DVD will not see anything... F8 was only option for me, but MS disabled it and I forgot to re-enable it (with bcdedit)... ) ...so it is actually my fault )) BTW: I like that avatar picture. Don't you have the one with penguin and the devil both f***ing Bill Gates?
When you started over with a fresh install, did it update normally? Unless you didn't try to get the problematic update again.
