I was thinking of modding my dell 1520 bios but I had a few questions first

    1) Is there any advantage to modding my bios vs using hazar's fix?

    If so...

    2) I cannot find any info on the manufacturer of my motherboard from my Dell 1520. I downloaded Everest, and it says my motherboard id is <DMI>. I'm assuming that dell manufactured the motherboard. If it is a dell motherboard, can someone point me in the right direction. I've seen tons of threads floating around here but its hard to sift through them when you have no idea what you are looking for.

    Thanks

If I was you, I would take a look inside your case and look at the manufacturer and exact model.

Dell BIOS files can't be modded.

I would say that modding the SLIC table is better than using a loader, but there is more risk involved. AFAIK, M$ can't tell if the SLIC has been added to a non-OEM board, so there is no way for them to deactivate Win 7 with an update. The loader may eventually be detectable. The risk is if you get a bad flash or an error in the modding process, you could brick your motherboard. And it most likely voids any warranty you may have (unless you can flash back before sending for repair).

I'm not knocking Hazar's work (I haven't tried his loader yet, waiting for v5, hoping it will work on an Intel DG45FC I have in an HTPC), but I think the reward for modding outweighs the risk in this case, as you won't have to worry about being deactivated in the future*.

    *At least for now

When you install the bios update it should extract the file to the temp location, if not you can use -info to list the commands to extract the files, once you have these could you post the rom file

What do you mean exactly by use -info?
