This question was probably covered here, But since being a newbie I can't find any reference to it. (sorry)
My problem is that I cannot install Office 2010 or 2013 on a Windows 8.1 Machine.
2010 just comes back with an error (unspecified) and says the installation could not be completed.
2013 MS Office eval disk goes through the process but backs out of the installation about 3/4 of the way through giving me a Bootstrapper error.

I tried using the Windows toolkit and ran the uninstall link of Office 2010. It did find some things and for a second there it looked like the problem was solved. But the MS 2010 or 2013 installer still fails.

I also think it might be a good idea to mention that MS Office 2010 was once installed but it expired. I un-installed using the programs and features control panel app. I don't know if it left some reg keys or some other garbage behind.

So, if anyone could be so kind to point me in the right direction, I would really appreciate it.

    Thanks in Advance.

First go and search on google the appropriate uninstaller for Office 2010 and 2013, Microsoft provides a fix for this. Once done use ccleaner in order to clean all unneccesary files and registry. Then verify the hash of office 2010 or 2013 to be sure they are the correct one. Please, give us your feedback. ;)

Thanks for the reply. Although, as embarrassing as it is I must admit that I don't know how to verify the hash. I've seen it mentioned here but to be honest I haven't a clue how to use it. I think i did try the Microsoft fix for this, but it didn't work. (I spent 3 hours battling this) I will try CCleaner as I do suspect that something is lurking in the registry.

Apparently, I'm doing something wrong. I can see the files at MSDN, But I cannot download anything since I do not have a MSDN subscription.
What I did do, is to download an eval copy from MS.com. I'm still at a loss of what to do with this. On another note, I ran CCleaner and the MS fixit
on the computer in which I'm trying to install on but still no luck.

Please be noted that, MTK cannot activate eval versions. Download VL editions of office 2013, you can find the repository link from my signature for the same.
