    Hi All,

Well have an issue with a Vista User, during startup just after "welcome" appears an error message window is shown.

Msconfig.dat has stopped working, windows will close the application and see if a solution is available...

I have complete a clean startup by changing the config settings and it still appears, have run antivirus, malware and still have the came issue, ot does not appear during a save mode startup.

So thinking of overwritting the msconfig.exe file with a new one from installtion cd. (after taking ownership ect..)

Any ideas what it could be?

    start-run-cmd as Administrator and type:
    sfc /scannow

Wait until it has finished and reboot.

Have you installed any kind of software before this error occurred?

Yeh apparently they did install some system utilty software that i uninstalled, so my thoughts is either a registry issue or a corrupt msconfig.exe file.

    (OP)
Yehi it was PC HealthBoost some free pc health utility software, but it was reported to happen immedialty after this, so my first thought was virus, but its all clean, so maybe file corrupted, but i would have thought Sfc would have highlighted that.

So think its registy issue, or exe file is infected somehow,

*Update* - All sorted now after replacing the msconfig.exe file.
