I had bought a GA B75M D3V Rev2 Gigabyte motherboard, Dual core CPU G2030, Zion 4Gb RAM and zebronics 450W power supply and upgraded my desktop PC. I had a 80 gb sata HDD. This was a year back. Recently one day the PC did not start. So I opened the cover, checked the power supply, pulled out all cables from MB and connected all the cables and after assuring my self that all is well and Ok , I switched on the power. I heard a sputtering noise followed by burnt smell. I could feel that the MB is burnt. I took it to the retailer . There he declared that the MB is faulty and is to be sent for repairs. After two weeks he called me and told that the Processor is also faulty and requires repairs/replacement. So I requested him to check the RAM also and if, necessary send that also for repair. Now I am waiting for the complete set to come back. To my dismay I found out that the HDD is also dead. I am left only with the cabinet, keyboard and mouse. So my question is what burnt my MB completely?
I agree with LatinMcG saying its the cheap power supply. Never trust a Wung Hung Lo brand PSU, they barely meet the safety or power requirements needed.
Good way to learn that saving on PSUs usualy means that your whole mobo end up in smoke. I suggest quality Seasonic PSU and build a new rig now
Been goofing around with computer hardware since the late 80's. Not one time has a burnt electronics smell resulted in a better system.
wasn't worth repair + waiting 2 weeks is bad. I do a consult in 1 day and repairs if possible in 2 days.
I am happy to inform that I got replacement for my MB, RAM Processor and SSD. I had a HP 300w powersupply with only 20 pin connector and I have used it in this desk top Now. Things are working satisfactorily now. But I am still in doubt what was the cause of the failure. I also doubt a bridge somewhere.
All Computers in my company get cleaned from Dust etc. every 3 month. That also includes a full clean of the CPU and Graphic Cards Fans and Heatsinks, as well as the appliance of new Thermal Compound, for which we're using Arctic Silver paste, for CPU and Graphic Processor. The connector feet's of add-on cards and Memory Modules are cleaned with soft Pencil Rubber too, so the sockets with Kontakt 60 and Kontakt 61! Also laptops should be cleaned from inside, best by an expert, twice or even more often a year! That's maintenance which should be done, not on emergency only, just several times a year.
