I did this just for fun, I wanna see how long Windows will run in notification mode. really what happens if you dont activate will the OS bug you till you cant stand it anymore and buy it, or???? so I patched all the nags that I could find calc.exe - nag removed mspaint.exe - nag removed notepad.exe - nag removed PhotoViewer.dll - nag removed shell32.dll - control panel nag removed slui.exe - no wallpaper change, activation wizard on logon removed, taskbar balloon removed systemcpl.dll -activation info removed user32.dll - watermark removed wordpad - nag removed Windows Update - working the shell32 patch breaks the trust info for that file so I have also turned off UAC to avoid UAC nags when moving system files around. this is just and experiment and is not an activation hack, the system will run in nongenuine/notification mode once the trial period expires. normaly I install the OS with the date set back two months set if forward wait for the nags to start apply the patch, and wait to see what else will break. it is best to install/uninstall the patchs from safe mode or you may run into locked file problems .
it seems to work fine i uninstalled the key and everything was nagging before the patch and its all gone now
I saw it when, I dissassembled slui.exe HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Advanced\ enableballoontips? the key seems to dissapear when you click on the balloon. I just re-upped with a possible fix for the balloon tips nag. bspatch is not very smart it will repatch the same file again if you are not careful which will make it crash. and my install / uninstall scripts are not very good
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\SoftwareProtectionPlatform\Activation ActivationInterval is what i changed to get rid of the slui nagging if you or anyone else could tell me the original value that would be great.
v0.2 seems to have killed the taskbar balloon, been running 3 hours without a nag after removing the product key.
@fiveofseven thanks for the info i put the max value it would accept and it took almost 6 hours for it to show a taskbar balloon @nononsence ill try that one here in a little bit
its been over 24 hours without a balloon from the taskbar. the best way to install/uninstall is to reboot and then do nothing else but run the script. else you can get open file problems.
