Thanks for all the info lol I assumed that it would only require a rename and hopefully there is an easier and ill try backing up in DOS later with awdflash, but I don't think it will make a difference because Everest Ultimate also reported the size as 1024KB, but it doesn't hurt to try.

That might be it and thanks for modding that file, but I don't think it would be safe to flash it as there is a socket difference, maybe someone will upload the HP upgrade disk after its shipped, then we can all get our SLIC 2.1 BIOS' from HP :p

Ya you would probably have to back up your BIOS and then mod it or get it from HP support somehow (lie). I really wish HP would put up links for the BIOS they supply with PCs as well as updates :/

well thats strange how could your SLIC version suddenly change without you flashing your BIOS. It maybe the loader, but I don't know.

    bump

    any updates on it?

I wanted to backup the HP bios, but I think its pheonix (and not award), so using winplash or dos phflash 1.7, they both need a 'template?' Wph file, or else they won't backup.

I am worry about the wrong flash mapping if I use another "Narra" series's wph file.

So how do you backup or is it not possible? It would be easy if the flashrom was socketed, I could just buy a flashrom chip and make experiments. I think its all 8pin SPI (Very small) flash rom chip, now.

Can a bios dump be made with HWDirect? or how to find out the ACCURATE size of my bios? 512kb or 1mb ??

    thanks

A sure way to brick your computer is to flash the BIOS with the wrong model.

What is wrong with a loader if it works - M$ haven't stopped them yet.

If you have Slic v2.1 in your bios then 'SLIC Dump Toolkit' will show 2.1 if run from Vista.

'SLIC Dump Toolkit' reads the slic table in memory. In your case this is due to the loader doing it's job of loading the Slic table.
