trying to activate windows 10 build 10565 on a new laptop that came with home trying to activate pro and it wont let me use my windows 8 key. I already updated to pro with the generic key. It says invalid product id when I try to activate it over the phone. What can I do to get this activated with my genuine key?
Used windoews toolkit 2.6 beta 5 with my key and ez-activator and it activated windows 10 pro 10656 for me.
You're using a insider preview and you have changed it to a Volume License. If you downloaded a RTM and upgraded a 8.1 and didn't add any key because you're not suppose too, it would have activated. If you do a in place upgrade it doesn't ask for a key.
Windows 10 keys are not the same as Windows 8 keys. If you're trying to actually upgrade to Windows 10 this is how... To upgrade to Windows 10, you must 1st upgrade (not fresh install) your current version of Windows (7 or 8). Once Microsoft has recorded that you took them up on their offer for the free upgrade, THEN you can do a fresh install. During this install, keep clicking on SKIP when asked for a key. Sometime after you complete the install it will self activate (it will call home and Microsoft will remember you did the upgrade on that computer). No key is needed. build 10565 is a preview release. If you just want to try it out, don't use a key. It too will activate, but expire once that preview is over.
If I am not getting wrong then you are using windows 8 non-pro key. you can,t use home keys to activate windows 10 Pro. Earlier Edition of windows Free Upgrade Edition of windows 10 Windows 7 Starter Home Basic Home Premium Home Professional Ultimate Pro Windows 8 or 8.1 Non-Pro Edition Home Pro Pro
You nailed that one. He should have installed 10 Home. Then everything would have been fine. Actually he still can install Home, just wipe, and reinstall.
I hav an 8.0 pro key not 8.0 home key. It should have actvated it never asked for how many pc's its istalled on so I could not just say 1 and have it on both my pc's like I normally do. I just said screw it since this laptop is not my main one its a replacement for a lemon HP tablet that was in repair for 4 months.
For to use your Windows 8 Pro Key, you simply need to install Windows 8 Pro first, usind that Key. After that, you'll have to 'upgrade' to Windows 8.1 pro with latest updates installed and follow with the 'upgrade' to Windows 10! The only time you've to use that Pro Key, is at the initial installation of Windows 8 Pro, after that, if asked for to put an Product Key in, just skip that and continue the installation. You better also use an MS Account for that Upgrade!! After the Installation is fnish, windows 10 should be activated with no question asking! If that all is done properly, you could again do an clean install of Windows 10 Pro, just skip to keyin any Product Key within that clean installation. From the provious Upgrade to Windows 10 Pro, your HWID will be kept at MS Activation Server and the clean install will be activated automatically! May you'll need to restart the computer or wait a bit of time for the first activation of Windows 10 Pro clean install, that's just normal!
Legit keys (the ones from the stickers, emails and so on) must be used only on one machine or they fail to activate, that's pretty obvious. The ones stored on W8 or W8.1 machines ready BIOS are unique so no problem there. So, according to your messages, isn't clear how many Legit PRO license you are entitled to use. Anyway even if you haven't one you can just start from w7pro/ultimate activated with the daz loader.
As long as legit, fine! Just and simply, many of those are not really legit! And you have still to keep in mind: The Owner of that Softtware is the developer and NOT the User! The user just get the license to use, as long as the user follow the Rules of the Owner! And who didn't do that, breach the rules he signed to use!
You should keep separate the legit questions/answers by the technical ones. And anyway there isn't any of unlegit installing w8.1 straight with the w8 key, the same applies to installing w10 w/o updating. If starting from a legit installation/key.
In case that someone ask for the use and the How To.... of an legit Product Key, the answer should be legit! Technical possibilities are not always legit!! Some Windows 8 Keys could not be used for to install Windows 8.1 as Clean Install right away, only allowed to upgrade from Windows 8 to Windows 8.1! That's maybe rarely but always, I had that situation twice, just happens once to an MS Key, bought via Internet from MS directly, and the other an OEM Key, both legit and original!
