It just sits there with the bios screen saying to press esc key for start up, so basically can't clean install Anyone want me help get this HP to boot from USB win 7? The bcd OS entry got deleted so won't go into windows either Error is Bios/bcd is gone p.s. Used Windows 7 USB DVD Download Tool to burn ISO
It recommends to insert windows installation disc, restart and then go into repair your computer file: \boot]bcd status: 0xc0000098 info: windows boot configuration data fiel does not contain a valid os entry
Remember it already won't clean install so if HDD regen won't help I'm out of options to clean reinstall W7
Forgot to plug in laptop so when came downstairs it turned off. Almost done with another scan, then I'll see if can clean install or if I can get inside windows? Thanks About 30 minutes...
I believe the hdd regen did something There we're no sector errors just 2 delays and nothing to was shown fixed At boot with USB W7 plugged in I was able to press esc to open the startup menu and W7 install went fine When installing programs it did blue screen a couple times but then Windows did some updates and I think it fixed it If it didn't then I'll be back but I don't have access to the comp right now Thank you for your help Spoiler pisthai
Good to see it helps in some way. Delay's while using HD Regen could, but must mean that there maybe an hard error on HDD. If we found such in Recovery processes of damaged HDD's and it's just max 3-5 delay's, we'll add that "bad" sectors to the the list of them and mark them as not usable. As that is an complicated and long process and therefore expensive, we do that only on customers order and it get more complicated with today's SATA HDD's.
Just looked at your computer specs. There is an updated BIOS for your lappy, that makes it "Windows 8 Ready". If the BIOS contains a boot time option of "Secure Boot" or booting from a UEFI HDD aka GPT partition, then no matter what you do, Windows 7 will not boot properly. Get this, Windows 7 is not Windows 8 ready. I do not know if this is the case with your laptop. But if it does have a new BIOS, check to disable "secure boot' or booting from a UEFI (GPT) partition. Oh, and I have even seen people manage to install Win7, but on first boot, they run into the, booting the GPT partition problem. Just a thought, since you mentioned you are almost out of ideas.
