Hi all, I have a MSI motherboard and a win7 pro activated. Today the pc cannot boot up so i bring to the agent and they say the motherboard is faulty and need send back to taiwan to fix, and it going to take about a month. So i swap my hard disk to a old cpu so that at least i can still do some work, the thing is i only given 3 days to activate? why not 30 days? I won't want to activate it on the old cpu, is there a way to change it to 30 days?
Now, the 30-day thing is actually the grace period. If you haven't entered a product key during installation, you will get a 30-day grace period. Of course you can rearm to 120-days. It should show "3 days until automatic activation" in your scenario, well, it will try to activate itself through the internet after 3 days, but if yours is a OEM:COA key, you need to activate it by phone. In conclusion, you can't change it. By the way, you'd better try Daz's Windows Loader, which gives you a valid OEM:SLP key that doesn't really require activation.
yes,the way to get 30 days again is to use miniKMS activator and hit "rearm windows" button;try with right click-"run as adiministrator",reboot when ask and you are done! ps:try to use older version minikms(1.051)!
Thanks for all reply, but i was thinking of wait for the motherboard to come back, install back and no need reactivate again... if use activator it will over write my original activation right?
man rearm means that you extend grace period(30 days) for windows;by default when you make a fresh install,you receive 30 days grace period to activate your product.MiniKMS ONLY EXTEND grace period;you have 4 rearms(4x30=120days);this method don't require KEYS FOR ACTIVATION! sorry for my english!i hope that you undestead me;let me know for any trouble!all the best!
By the way, the loader doesn't really "need" activation. If it matches your certificate and SLIC with the Loader key, it will activate itself offline.
Apparently you have another working computer. You could use your MSI hard drive as a "data" drive in a USB enclosure (very inexpensive) or simply hook the drive up as another drive inside your other computer if it's a desktop. As long as all you do is copy off your data files, your Windows installation will not be affected.
