I am trying to modify the bios for a Dell Latitude E5400 computer currently running Windows XP. I have downloaded several rom files from the Dell ftp site for this laptop and am having problems extracting the rom. I have tried using the -writeromfile and -writehdrfile switches for the rom executable but when I try to open them using cbrom versions 140 to 195 all it does is hang. Can anyone help?
Why? The latest BIOS from Dell has SLIC 2.1 as this machine was sold with Vista with free W7 upgrade sebus
hello I have the same problem with a E6420, I need a backup.rom of this bios but my laptop not boot to windows is freeze in DELL LOGO, and dell support only donwload the files packaged in EXE format, and try with universal extract, 7zip, and several command -writeromfile / writeromfile and others but not work.. I need help to get the bios rom ....
forgive me for asking this if it has already been asked. i have a dell studio 1737. on the dell website listing "dell notebooks compatible with windows 7", studio 1737 was listed. does this mean that bios a09 contains slic 2.1 so modding is unnecessary? thanks for your time.
hey i just downloaded the slic toolkit 3.2 and used it on my modded desktop. very nice tool. as for the dell studio 1737, i bought one used. still has not arrived. i'll use the slic tool you recommended. just one question though, i downloaded the most current bios a09_1737.exe from the dell site. is there any tools i can use to see if slic 2.1 is present in the actual bios file? thanks again.
latinMcG, so you have capabilities/tools to see if slic 2.1 is present just by looking into the bios file? i can send you the extracted rom from a09_1737.exe which is flashabl.rom. i used 7-zip to extract rom from a09_1737.exe because -writeromfile didn't work. can you send me your email in private message so i can attach the rom for you? thanks again for answering my previous question and trying to help me figure this out.
using phonenix/dell/efi mod tool as you stated with flashabl.rom from a09_1737.exe returned the result below: HEADER (OEMID_OEMTABLE LTP) in BIOSCOD02.ROM (x1) Pubkey in MOD_4A00.ROM (x1) Marker (2.1) (DELL QA09 ) in HOLE10.ROM (x1) so i take it that slic 2.1 is present and i just need dell certificate, correct? i have to thank you once again latinMcG for taking the time to help me out.
