Does anyone know how to get this to work in Windows 8.1
It work great in Windows 7 with the new drivers from Netgear but those drivers and program dont seem to work in Windows 8.1 even in compatible mode. Keeps dropping connection.

driver is old legacy and discontinued by Netgear. Guess you gonna need a new device o_O

one thing you can do is to connect the PC to the internet with a cable while Netgear is pluged in and wait until it might find a working USB driver for it but this is just to give it a try

Is there no way to make it more stable. Windows 8.1 has drivers for it. But it does not seem to be stable.

generic windows drivers always are a compromise. Only original drivers from the manufacturer do the best job. In that case, I'm sorry but you certainly will get no updated version for your stick

I think the problem is your router, try to upgrade the firmware of your router.

    my router has been updated.
The stick does connect but it drops all the time.
The program that came with the drivers allowed VPN and it was very stable connection.

There are two versions of this dongle v1 and v2 - I have a v2 and have got it working in 8.1 using the v2 3 or 3.1 driver for win 7
Currently back in win7 so can't check which. Ironically works fine in ubuntu 13.10!

How did you get it to work in Windows 8.1
I have v2 3.0 and 3.1 tried both and it does not seem to work for me.

since the older wifi stick did not work on both frequencies 2.4 and 5 gHz you also get a lot of distortion from the outside. Meantime 2.4 is used by many wireless devices and the air is fully loaded with this frequecy. I remember some time ago when I bought a new USB stick for a machine in my house which only can be handled remotely. Sometimes the 2.4 range dropped as well and I had to switch to 5 gHz only (not automatic mode) to get it running smoothly. perhaps a new place for your router can solve this problem

The computer I am using it on is in my office and the router is in the living room. I cant move the router because then the kids computers will not connect to the router.

Had you try to set the driver in Compatibility Mode like Windows 7 or the OS it were created for? I would that try as well because that worked in many occasion for mew with older product's!
