I came across this site through google. So much information it is a bit over whelming and confusing. I hope you can help. Please bare with me. My desktop came with WIN7 64 bit Home Premium. I went ahead and dl the .iso of WIN7 Home Premium 64 bit from a sticky post on here. I have heard this will work for me for a clean install. But I would need to use the phone to activate it. Using my key on the pc sticker. I would like to avoid that if possible and activate it online to make life easier. I took a look at the ei.cfg file in notepad. It is set to Retail. I have heard by changing it to OEM. I can install it and activate it online by using my key instead of calling. Any truth to this or is there another method involved?

Post the hash result that you got from the downloaded file. You may have just gotten the wrong image.

Looks like the correct one to me. 64 bit premium

Now, you can remove the ei.cfg if you ever need to install other versions, no reason to download again. Also, after backing up your tokens, installing fresh, restoring the tokens you can at anytime after that grab the HP key off of the windows 7 keys sticky and perform an anytime upgrade and it will offline activate.

Ugh you are right. I was reading older information it seems. Can you give me the instructions on the free upgrade to pro or ultimate? Thanks again for all the help and being patient.

Anytime after installing premium if you decide to go to pro or ultimate just run the anytime upgrade and insert the appropriate HP brand key from the keys sticky. Or just install ultimate and manually insert key and cert. Check the repository for htat method

i dont understand why do you have to go the long way .
    just install windows 7 ultimate.
get the oem slp from here and install installl it with that. no need to use you sticker key at all.

after that you just need to apply hp certificate witch can be found here.

Is it okay to be connected to the internet when doing this? Or is it best to be offline when doing a clean install and restoring my information?

I done a clean install and PayMyRent's program did not work for me. It activated but when going online. It said I had 30 days. So some thing was fubar. I tried it twice both being fresh installs. I had to use the phone support from MS and it activated fine using my sticker on the pc.

Any ideas why it did not work for me? I really was hoping it would work instead of having to call MS. :(

Armada has experienced allot of problems with HP computers failing activation, I would say that they have a problem with their SLP activation. Going to make for a lot of false positives for MS.

Now would be a good time to use the token restore program or just backup your whole drive. I use Macrium.

Damn HP. Seemed like a really cool program to. I will go ahead and make a back up image. I will also give the program another shot with the new activation from the phone. It might just work the next time I try this. You think it might work this time since I used phone activation?

I always tell people to stay online when installing as to get any driver updates before install. Also PAYMYRENT's tool is sound and when someone is having error regarding it it's a user error. I know this cause I screwed up using the tool not the tool:)
