Long story short, I got a Lenovo Y500 laptop and wanna try how the old XP x64 SP2 will run on it compared to Win 7 x64. (I finally saw the Windows 8 crapware with my own eyes and wiped it out at the second day after purchase)

Windows 7 x64 installs with no problem, but the installation of XP x64 is stuck at the point after initial files copying (Message "Installing Windows..." BEFORE the fist reboot). No BSOD, no code beeping, just a black screen like a display adapter is down, CPU fan throttling to 100% speed and then full hard shutdown.

I tried the "forged copying" as alternative installation method. Took off the HDD, placed it in the other PC, interrupted installation at the first restart checkpoint and put it back to Y500 to continue. No way, it went hard shutdown as soon as the splashscreen appeared.

For testing, I tried even to install XP x86 - the same story.

Finally, I replaced the Y500 HDD with the one from old dead PC that once had the XP x64 installed and tried to boot in Safe Mode. There I noticed that Windows is hanging with the same behavior at the acpitabl.bat file.

I got all the drivers (except of USB 3.0 that isn't supported in XP) and was about to perform the XP-7 comparison, but stuck at this damn error and it drives me really MAD

Any help for shooting this trouble will be greatly appreciated.

I don't think so. I tried to disable 2 and 3 of cores (the CPU is i7-3630QM) in BIOS. No effect.

I tried a delta conversion from 2003 SP2 x64 Trial. Also have an original SP3 x86 CD, but it would be a shame to keep down the mighty 4-core, 8 GB RAM computer with x86 hardware-limited Windows, either XP or 7.

Could the problem be the BIOS settings.
The newer lappy will be set to AHCI. will it need to be LEGACY. I may be barking up the wrong tree. Not to sure to be honest.

Yes especially if the HDD is not capable of AHCI .. Also x64 if that is the OS choice may need to be enabled in bios for CPU

If that's the case he/she will get a BSOD.
Anyway, disable AHCI and try again.

Switching between AHCI/IDE does NOT affect the process. From own experience I know about BSOD IDE-AHCI problem... But here, looks like the computer hangs even before HDD controller drivers are loaded. Most likely when ACPI gets engaged.
Tried to disable APIC in ACPI menu (I use the unlocked BIOS form TechInferno) and got the message like "Windows can't boot because of the configuration..."

    DAMMIT!
Even the mini-XP form Hiren's CD fails to start. The behavior is almost similar except for the auto-restart in the end.

onetwo3, the USBoot just creates the working installation on the flash drive. It will give me nothing but the same result. AHCI/IDE is not the reason in my case.

, there are no minidump files at the HDD with XP x64 that I was testing. Looks like hard shutdown prevents even the dump.

I agree with this - change from AHCI to IDE or legacy. That's how I got XP Pro w/SP3 and XP Pro x64 w/SP2 on my system:
ASUS Rampage IV Extreme LGA 2011 X79 8X DIMM PCIe 3.0 Motherboard
    Intel Core i7-3960X 3.31 LGA 2011 Processor BX80619i73960X:biggrin:

Could it be the XP disc would need SATA drivers added.

SP2 wont have any, well I think it does not. Was brought out before SATA.

Come to think SP3 does not either.

I have a spare socket 1155 Asus UEFI machine. I have not tried to load XP onto it. If I get time I will have a mess about and see what happens and note down my
