Has anyone here ever seen a brand new computer unpacked from a sealed box preloaded with a virus? I was helping a friend of mine with his new computer, a quad core phenom 1.8 ghz with four gigs of ram that was completely unresponsive and had a bunch of suspicious entries in the running processes tab, one that comes to mind was chifunc32.exe

We reinstalled Vista and everything was good after that but I thought it was bizarre to find a brand new computer in that state.

Thanks for the input, the computer in question was a gateway.

It could have been a customer return (stores often just reseal the box and sell them again).
I'm another build it yourself fan...

    Enjoy!

I ever built my own computers, is the best way, you can choose the best components, install the OS yourself and get a really good machine.:D

There was a big flag a few months ago about people buying Dell's and HP's from walmart, but they were actually re-conditioned and sold as New.

Viruses have come "out of the box" before. Sorry no example but I read in news once, I think it was 3rd party - not from Windows.
