I am thinking on buying a laptop. What do you look for in one when you buy your own? How much do you spend on it plz? Or do you prefer a tablet?

    thx

It's not about the money we spend; but, it's about your necessities.

I think it's a well balance between those two factors. ;)

want to be able to hook up keyboard, modem, monitor, web cam, mic to it. Not a gamer, nor video editor. Want to be able to use it outside and just general internet use.

    thx

most laptops come with web and mic built in, if not they mostly have outlets for them.

So you would need a laptop with a HDMI/VGA/DVI or some form of Video port that works with whatever monitor you use, USB ports for Mouse and Keyboard, possibly outlets for mic/cam if you get one without. For what you are saying you use it for, easily get one for under $500. Sounds like a Walmart, Costco or OfficeMax trip for a lappy to me. Online, newegg.com, tigerdirect.com, maybe even overstock.com or something similar. 4 to 8GB ram, Intel i5/AMD A8 or close, should give you room to breath, HDD space is dependent on you really. 500GB to 1TB I would think more than enough.

Personally, I always like the larger 17+ inch laptop screens, but for more portability 15+ should be fine, especially if you plan to use a monitor a lot. My only suggestion really would be to get a laptop that you can easily upgrade ram and HDD when you choose, even upgradable CPU would be great. You know, for later down the line if you rather upgrade the parts instead of buying a new laptop.

Tablets, not so up on what they have for external device inputs.
