Hi, First of all i'd like to say that I don't totally understand everything a server does and am only starting to research it. Also, before you say anything i've looked all over microsofts website for the answer to these questions before I posted this. I'd like to build a server for a very small business. My main concern is a central file storage location for all the networked computers in the business, as well as, the ability to access the files from a remote location (the internet). I've installed WHS (Because it seems to fit what I need) and played around with its remote login from the internet. My question is does any of the other servers have this feature ie Server 2008/2003 that WHS has? I'd like to be able to have clients access certain files from the server at their own pcs without me having to burn them to a cd and drop it off. I'd also like to access the files remotely so that I can work on them at my house and then upload the saved files back to the server. Also, if server 2008/2003 has this feature (remote internet login) can you setup username/passwords for individual users and only grant those users access to certain files/folders. Thank you for your help in advance!
Anybody? 63 lookers and nobody can tell me if server 2003/2008 has the ability to access files off of the server through the internet like WHS?
How do the customers connect to your local network? If you're using remote dial in or VPN, you have to use a router between the server and the remote connectors. If you do that, every server is able to offer the files remote (as the server doesn't make a difference between local and remote, if you do it this way)
How about trying some simple google searches with entries like: file access from the internet Windows Server 2008 internet file access through Windows Server 2008 and accessing files through the internet with Windows Server 2008 And you should find the information you need. Regards,
