A forced update was installed last night, now I am getting the "genuine windows" notification. I have been using the same SP# VLK key for years.

Does anyone know if they blacklisted all VLK keys, or could there still be some out there?

I am not an expert on this, I just know how to deal with the VLK. I have been doing it for about 10 years, I have had to get a new key for every new SP. I am not familiar with "SLP". I will Google that and see what I can learn. I have upgraded all my comps to 7 (dual boot with Linux) but this is for a laptop that I use primarily to run my magic jack. I wish Magic jack would run on Linux, I would be fine then. I tried 7 on this laptop but it is sluggish.

Anyway, thanks, I will look into that.

This may provide some relief - (been awhile since I played with XP)

Add "127.0.0.1 mpa.one.microsoft.com" to c:\windows\system32\drivers\etc\hosts file using notepad (without the quotes)

    Delete folder C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Windows Genuine Advantage

Install a new vlk key. Anything that you can find.

    Reboot.
