I recently bought an ECS rebranded laptop that is similar to this

    h ttp://w ww.ecs.com.tw/website2008/Product/Product_Detail.aspx?CategoryID=3&TypeID=92&DetailID=1241&DetailName=Feature&MenuID=102&LanID=0

It is a Sandy Bridge i7-2630QM notebook with Intel 3000 graphics that is rebranded as Neo in my country. It uses the new Intel HM65 chipset as far as I know. It is a very nice laptop so far and the only think I want to change is the girly BIOS splash image included by Neo. This laptop does not come with an operating system (no SLIC?)

Is it possible to change the BIOS splash image? So far here are what I have gathered:

    - the BIOS cannot be found anywhere on the net since it is still relatively new and ECS does have a habit of not supporting their products through updates very well.
    - I have already tried asking Neo tech support for a copy of the BIOS but also without success.
    - the BIOS appears to be Phoenix Securecore
    - I used Universal BIOS Backup Toolkit 2.0 to backup the BIOS and I was able to obtain this successfully: h ttp://w ww.megaupload.com/?d=ZF2EG3EJ
    - I then tried using Phoenix BIOS Editor Pro 2.2.13 to edit the .rom file but I get an error message saying "psi analysis fail"
    - I then downloaded Phoenix_Mod_Tool 1.42 from this site and tried opening the .rom file. It was able to dump the .rom file but at this stage I am now stuck.

    - I cannot find the SLIC for my BIOS. Since this laptop did not come with any OS, does that also mean there is no SLIC in the ROM?
    - Since I cannot obtain a downloaded copy of the BIOS and I just used Universal BIOS backup to get the .rom file, is it still possible to flash the BIOS chip?

Any input will be very appreciated. Thanks in advance.

    Sincerely,
    Kevin

Thanks for the very fast reply. Ok I will try that now. Is there any way to rebuild "platform information" without the original BIOS? Do you think ECS will give the BIOS out if I pester them? =D

it can be rebuilt if you have an older bios from the manufacturer, not from a dump or a backup.

Does it have to be for the same laptop or just the same manufacturer? i.e. BIOS of a different laptop manufactured by ECS. Thanks again.

IT MUST BE THE SAME MODEL, of course, that is the "platform informations" of the platform not from an other model.

that's why it cannot be rebuilt easily.

Hi, I have finally acquired a copy of my bios from our local service center. The technician gave me a rar file with bios.wph and phlash16.exe. From what I have read, I need to make a bootable drive and run phlash16.exe from dos. I'll try to find a way to open the bios.wph file later to change the splash image before flashing it again. Am I on the right track? Thanks.

I was able to open bios.wph but I don't know where to go from here.

    Here's bios.wph
    h ttp://w ww.megaupload.com/?d=K7QWIQNY

Am I going about it correctly?
-manufacturer should be set to "others"
-what should I choose in SLIC? this laptop does not come with an OS so I assume it has no SLIC?
-what should I choose for the rw file?

    Thanks in advance.

    Will this work?

If I open the bios.wph file using AndyP's Phoenix Bios Tool, I see that the dump folder has logo00.bin and logo01.bin. I tried opening them with image editors but they don't work.

Here's what I'm planning to do:
    1. Get a bios file from a different laptop and open it using Phoenix Editor Pro
    2. Replace the splash images there and build
    3. open the result using AndyP's Phoenix Bios Tool and extract logo00.bin and logo01.bin
    4. open my laptop's bios.wph using AndyP's Phoenix Bios Tool and build with new logo00.bin and logo01.bin

Will this work? Thanks in advance.
