Good day to all, I have a HP pavilion desk top running Vista with SP2 with a built in TV tuner. I have had this for 2 years and never used the tuner. I just learned how to use it and I like it alot. Now what I am trying to figure out is how do I get the sound split between devices. What I'm saying is I want to watch tv on my tv and have all other sounds to go thru my desk top speakers. I have the tv set up vis a HDMI cable. I want to be able to default Media center sound to the TV. I'm at a complete loss on how to do that. I have had it where it worked i.e. tv with sound and the other sounds coming thru the desk to speakers but when I turned the computer off it reverted back to the defaut speakers. Have all sounds coming thru default speakers. Any help would be apperciated
Can you explain how you had it working for a moment? What software are you using? So, your tuner card sends the audio to your TV via HDMI, correct? Do you have your desktop speakers hooked up to a separate audio card or the TV tuner?
I have no idea how I got it to work but it did until I turned the computer off. I know when I got it to work for the brief period I was changing the sound properties. I was in advanced and changing Exclusive mode. I am using vista service pack #2 I have my tv set up as monitor #2 and I drag windows media center to monitor #2. I can get all sounds thru either my speakers or the computer depending on what I have set as my default sound output. The desk top speakers are just plugged into the 3.5mm jack at the back of the computer. They are not thry the tv tuner.
I think I figured out what I did. I defaulted the HDMI cable as my sound device before starting any applications. Started the application (media center) sound coming out of my TV. Before starting any other application I changed the default sound to my desk top speakers. It worked I have sound from the media player coming from my tv and I-tunes coming from my desk top speakers. I can see this being a pain in the butt but it works.
